Less downtime, more leg freedom

What is Venous Ablation?

Venous ablation is a minimally invasive treatment used to eliminate varicose veins by sealing off the affected veins using thermal energy.

We specialize in radiofrequency ablation, a state-of-the-art technique that uses gentle, controlled heat to collapse the faulty vein walls. Once closed, the blood is naturally rerouted through healthier veins, improving circulation and reducing the painful symptoms associated with chronic venous insufficiency. This procedure is particularly effective for treating the superficial veins in the legs that commonly develop into visible, rope-like varicose veins.

Unlike traditional surgical methods, venous ablation is performed in-office under local anesthesia and typically requires little to no downtime. Patients are usually back on their feet the same day, often resuming normal activities within 24 to 48 hours.

Treat the root cause, not just the symptoms

How Venous Ablation Works

The procedure begins with a thorough ultrasound evaluation to map out the damaged veins and confirm the best treatment plan.

On the day of your ablation, a local anesthetic is applied to ensure comfort throughout the process. A small catheter is then inserted into the targeted vein, through which radiofrequency energy is delivered. This thermal energy gently heats the vein walls, causing them to collapse and seal shut. Over time, the treated vein is absorbed by the body, and blood flow is rerouted through nearby healthy veins.

The entire process is done in under an hour for most patients, and it avoids the need for stitches, incisions, or general anesthesia. A compression stocking is worn following the treatment to promote healing and improve circulation. Patients can walk immediately after the procedure and are encouraged to stay active.

What Venous Ablation Does for You

Living with varicose veins can feel like a daily battle—physically uncomfortable and emotionally draining.

Venous ablation not only relieves the physical symptoms like heaviness, swelling, and aching but also helps restore your confidence and overall wellness. Many patients notice significant improvements in both mobility and self-esteem as their legs regain a healthier, more comfortable appearance.

Choosing to treat your varicose veins with venous ablation is more than a cosmetic fix—it’s an investment in your vascular health. Left untreated, venous insufficiency can progress, leading to skin discoloration, ulceration, and long-term complications. Taking care of your legs now means more freedom and less worry down the road. If you’re ready to feel lighter, more energized, and take a proactive step toward better circulation, call Commonwealth Vein Center today.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is venous ablation painful?

Most patients experience minimal discomfort thanks to local anesthesia used during the procedure. Some may feel a warming sensation or mild pressure, but significant pain is uncommon.

Recovery is typically quick—many patients return to work and normal activities within one to two days. Mild bruising or soreness may occur but resolves on its own.

While the treated veins are closed right away, visible improvements usually occur over a few weeks as the body naturally reabsorbs the vein and symptoms diminish.
