Varithena

varithena, Varithena
Do you deal with the discomfort of varicose veins every day? You may have tried home remedies to try and avoid surgical treatment for these problem veins. Now, with Varithena®, you can experience a quick and easy treatment for many different types of varicose veins.

To learn more about this minimally invasive vein treatment, we encourage you to reach out to our professionals here at Commonwealth Vein Center. We offer a variety of vein treatment options at our practice in Colonial Heights. Contact us today to schedule your consultation!

What are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins and spider veins are similar enough that many people confuse the two, but they are actually very different and often require different treatments. Varithena only treats varicose veins, not spider veins.

Varicose veins are usually in the legs and feet, and they form when blood is no longer able to travel up the leg back into the heart. The blood then pools in the vein, causing the twisted, bulging appearance to form. The veins also turn a dark blue or purple color, due to how much blood gathers in one spot.

What is Varithena®?

Many non-surgical vein treatments still require incisions, but this is not the case with Varithena. This treatment involves a simple injection into the problem vein. Varithena is a microfoam that causes the treated to collapse. The vein then turns into scar tissue, and the blood flow is rerouted into the nearby healthy veins.

The benefits of Varithena® include:
Minimally invasive and non-surgical
The treatment usually takes one hour
All physical symptoms of varicose veins (including pain) are treated
It is able to treat veins in the GSV system
Most patients only need one treatment
Who is a Good Candidate?
This type of treatment does not work for all varicose veins, so it is important to come in for a consultation. Our professionals can determine if you have the right type of veins to be able to undergo treatment. If you have had your varicose veins treated with other methods in the past that were unsuccessful, Varithena® may be a good option for you.

The Process

Before the doctor injects your veins with Varithena®, they will first numb the area to ensure your comfort. After the treatment, you will be able to immediately return to your normal activities, as long as you refrain from heavy exercise for at least one week. We will also recommend that you wear compression stockings for up to two weeks.
